Michelle Wood appointed as Gippsland Critical Minerals CEO

The Board of Gippsland Critical Minerals (GCM) today confirmed the appointment of Michelle Wood as Chief Executive Officer effective immediately.

Michelle’s appointment follows a six-month period in which she has successfully acted as Project Director, including submitting to the Victorian Government a Retention License application for the Fingerboard Critical Minerals Project in East Gippsland. The application is based on a significant rescoping of the Project, including a major commitment to improved community consultation and benefit sharing.

Ms Wood joins GCM from strategic advisory and public affairs consultancy Bondi Partners, where she was Director responsible for the firm’s Australian consulting business from which she acted as GCM Project Director.

GCM Chairman Brad Pettersson said, “We are very pleased to have Michelle join us and lead our team permanently. Over the past six months, Michelle has demonstrated her commitment to working with all stakeholders to develop a project that prioritises environmental, community, and First Nations outcomes and can co-exist with local agriculture to deliver real benefits to the economy and people of Gippsland and Victoria.”

“While we are awaiting the Victorian Government’s decision on our Retention License application, Michelle is currently working with our team to reset the Fingerboards Project based on rescoping its boundaries and a significant investment in improved community engagement.”

Michelle brings to GCM more than two decades of experience in business, public affairs and community engagement across the private, public and non-profit sectors in Australia and the United States.

Prior to Bondi Partners, Michelle was Acting Group General Manager Corporate Affairs at AGL. She previously held leadership roles at News Corp Australia, Uber, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Michelle has also held positions within the Australian Mission to the United Nations in New York, MGSM, Sydney Water (NSW Minister for Water) and the Australian Trade Commission.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Media and a Master of Business (Research).
