Local jobs and local opportunities
The Fingerboards Critical Minerals Project will generate around 400 jobs during construction, followed by approximately 300 ongoing, permanent operational roles once construction is complete.
These roles will deliver long-term economic and social benefits by creating trainable, locally focused opportunities across East Gippsland in construction, mechanical services, electrical trades, and mobile equipment operations.
Importantly, many of these roles can be redeployed from industries scheduled to close in the region, such as energy and timber, supporting workforce stability in East Gippsland. GCM is partnering with local training and education providers to establish tailored training and apprenticeship programs, strengthening the local skills, and creating pathways into sustainable regional careers across trades, agriculture, and science.

Backing East-Gippsland First
Local business opportunities
GCM has a Gippsland-First Procurement Policy to ensure preference for Gippsland-based suppliers and contractors who employ local residents and align with strong health, safety, environmental and ethical standards. This approach will generate substantial local business opportunities in areas such as fabrication, maintenance, logistics, and supply, while supporting underrepresented groups including First Nations peoples, women, youth, and displaced workers.
If you’re a local business, contractor or service provider interested in working with GCM, the first step is to register your interest so we understand local capability and can connect businesses with upcoming opportunities as the project progresses. Opportunities will be released progressively, and registering your details helps ensure you’re considered as relevant packages arise.
