Local jobs and local opportunities

The Fingerboards Critical Minerals Project will generate around 400 jobs during construction, followed by approximately 300 ongoing, permanent operational roles once construction is complete.

These roles will deliver long-term economic and social benefits by creating trainable, locally focused opportunities across East Gippsland in construction, mechanical services, electrical trades, and mobile equipment operations.

Importantly, many of these roles can be redeployed from industries scheduled to close in the region, such as energy and timber, supporting workforce stability in East Gippsland. GCM is partnering with local training and education providers to establish tailored training and apprenticeship programs, strengthening the local skills, and creating pathways into sustainable regional careers across trades, agriculture, and science.

The Junior Engineer supports the technical, operational, and environmental workstreams of the Fingerboards Project, contributing to the design, development, and optimisation of mining and processing systems. This position provides hands-on experience across multiple engineering disciplines — mining, mineral processing, environmental management, and site infrastructure — while ensuring GCM’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and community benefit is upheld.

The role suits a graduate or early-career engineer eager to develop strong technical and professional skills within a collaborative and high-performing project team, while contributing to one of Victoria’s most significant critical mineral developments.

The Senior Engineer plays a leading role in planning, design, and execution of the Fingerboards Project’s technical operations. Responsible for overseeing engineering studies, process optimisation, and commissioning, this position ensures the integration of mining, processing, and environmental systems to achieve operational and sustainability objectives.

The Senior Engineer will guide project teams and contractors to deliver high-quality outcomes in alignment with GCM’s standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. This is a key leadership role in delivering one of Australia’s most advanced critical mineral projects.

Our Approach to Procurement

Backing Gippsland first

GCM has a Gippsland – First Procurement Policy to ensure preference for Gippsland-based suppliers and contractors who employ local residents and align with strong health, safety, environmental, and ethical standards. This approach will generate substantial local business opportunities in fabrication, maintenance, logistics, and supply, while supporting underrepresented groups including First Nations peoples, women, youth, and displaced workers. Beyond direct employment, GCM’s community partnerships and sponsorships program is building capacity and inclusion across East Gippsland.

In 2025, GCM spent $46,650 towards initiatives that promote education, First Nations empowerment, and regional resilience – building a pipeline of skilled local workers, supporting small business participation, and fostering inclusive economic growth that will endure well beyond the life of the project. The Project’s freight rail reinstatement between Melbourne and Bairnsdale will generate additional regional employment in logistics, warehousing, and maintenance, supporting the broader economic growth of East Gippsland.

In 2026, GCM will work with community to further build out its Community Benefits program to ensure the people of East Gippsland are the true beneficiaries of this Project for the long term.
