Bairnsdale-based Human Resources Manager Rebecca Morrall has been selected as the recipient of the Gippsland Critical Minerals (GCM) Community Scholarship for the 2026 Gippsland Community Leadership Program (GCLP).

The GCM scholarship supports the place of an East Gippslander in GCLP, one of Australia’s longest running regional leadership programs, building leadership capability, confidence and strong local networks through a structured, experiential learning model delivered across Gippsland.

Ms Morrall, will join 25 other leaders from across Gippsland in the program that runs from February to November, and celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026.

Through reflective, collaborative and hands-on participation, participants of GCLP undertake group work, individual challenges, observational learning focused on strengthening leadership capability, as well as deliver a community project.

Committee for Gippsland CEO Tony Cantwell said GCLP has a proud history of developing regional leaders and strengthening Gippsland communities over the past three decades.

“The Gippsland Community Leadership Program has helped equip individuals with the skills, confidence and capacity to contribute to a stronger, more resilient Gippsland, by being active and engaged across government, business and community organisations,” Mr Cantwell said.

“Alumni include former Victorian Police Commissioner Ken Lay AO, Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie and Federal Member for Monash Mary Aldred, along with many local government councillors, mayors and regional business leaders.”

GCM Community and Engagement Lead and program alumnus Mick Harrington said the scholarship reflects GCM’s focus on investing in regional capability.

“Strong communities rely on capable local leadership,” Mick said.

“This scholarship supports someone who is already contributing to Gippsland’s workforce and gives them the opportunity to broaden their perspective and networks across the region.”

Ms Morrall said she looks forward to building stronger regional connections through the program.

“The opportunity to engage with leaders from across Gippsland will help me better support workforce development and long-term employment pathways in the region,” Ms Morrall said.
